As a minimum, we recommend that you have been fostering for at least one year before you apply. Some mortgage lenders will want to see two years of foster care income. It may be possible to get a mortgage through a specialist lender if you’ve been fostering for a shorter period than outlined, and our team can advise you on this. Lenders will usually want proof that the fostering income will continue for the foreseeable future. They’ll normally ask for evidence of this in the form of a letter from either the local authority, or from the fostering agency that you work through.
